David McNett

An introduction, of sorts. . .

Although my passport says I'm "David McNett", most people know me as "Nugget". I'm a geek who calls Austin, Texas home. I'm a co-founding board member of distributed.net, one of the flightaware.com guys, a nuclear taco chef, and a mixture of other interests and diversions. You've managed to find my home page and herein you will discover a mixture of personal and professional trivia about me. Probably way more than you ever cared to know. I used to be nugget@slacker.com but moved my home page to this domain in November 2006.

There used to be a different picture of me here.

The Reader's Digest condensed version of me

I listen to most any sort of music you can think of (except country and really heavy metal). I'm a night person, I have a cynical sense of humor, and I am not very photogenic. I have a favorite beer. I find small children unnerving. I can see those "magic eye" 3D posters. I don't own very many pairs of shoes. When I'm alone I like to sing (badly and loudly). I have a terrible time getting to sleep at night. I'm often in a good mood for no apparent reason. I love movies where "nothing happens." I have a blog but not much angst. I think that many of the world's problems would be solved if everyone owned a two-seater convertible.

I was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. I've also lived in Atlanta, Georgia and Birmingham, Alabama. Most recently I moved to Austin, Texas and I'm never leaving. In general I prefer the social climate of the South as compared to the Midwest. Living in Texas is great, but it pretty much kills any chance of doing a decent weekend road trip -- six hours on the road and you're still in Texas. I don't believe that people go on road trips nearly often enough, myself included.

One of my greatest passions is international travel. It's something I try to do as often as possible and encourage everyone to explore. As Mark Twain said, "Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness."

I quit smoking 11 years, 4 days, 5 hours, 55 minutes, and 31 seconds ago. During that time, I would have smoked 88,423 cigarettes. (That's like smoking a 4.19 mile-long cigarette) By quitting, I've saved $15,474.02! (That's 19 Apple 20" Cinema Displays and change) I've avoided inhaling 2.30 kg of tar, 141 grams of nicotine, and 1.41 kg of carbon monoxide.
