While it's not in keeping with the nature of my "slacker" identity, I have managed to fill my time with a fairly broad spectrum of activities. These include both professional and recreational interests.

In February 1997 I helped create a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit group called distributed.net. This project was the first large-scale, general-purpose distributed computing effort to use volunteer machines on the Internet to complete computationally-intensive tasks. I am a founding board member and the current President of the organization. distributed.net maintains a volunteer network of 80,000 participants with 250,000 machines.
